Summary

"Children are not the only ones that need to learn how to be truly happy。 It’s all in the bucket, that invisible bucket that follows you everywhere。。。 teaches young readers valuable lessons about giving, sharing, and caring。 This guide to daily happiness, though, is not just for kids。 We all need reminders of the benefits of positive thinking and positive behavior。 It’s an important lesson to teach and remind us all 。 。 。 that showing kindness and appreciation of others goes a long way to making this world a happier place for everyone, including ourselves。 A classic tale, beautifully told and beautifully shared。" —Emily-Jane Hills Orford, Readers' Favorite Book Reviews

While using a simple metaphor of a bucket and a dipper, author Carol McCloud illustrates that when we choose to be kind, we not only fill the buckets of those around us, but also fill our OWN bucket! Conversely, when we choose to say or do mean things, we are dipping into buckets。 All day long, we are either filling up or dipping into each other's buckets by what we say and what we do。 When you're a bucket filler, you make the world a better place to be! This 32-page picture book is perfect for children, parents, grandparents, teachers and people that want to teach empathy, nurture kindness and create a positive environment in their home, classroom, workplace and community。

Just read this with our 3 yr old。。。twice because she liked it so much。 Then unprompted she told me she is going to be really nice and helpful tomorrow to fill up people's buckets。 Fingers crossed! A great launching pad for discussion about how our actions impact others, and our own happiness。 Just read this with our 3 yr old。。。twice because she liked it so much。 Then unprompted she told me she is going to be really nice and helpful tomorrow to fill up people's buckets。 Fingers crossed! I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate this book。 Often times, we don't realize-even as adults-that we have this bucket we carry along with us internally。 This read portrays that internalized bucket as a more physical concept which is easier for children to consider。 It highlights that we can each fill our own bucket of self love by selfless/kind actions and words, helping others, smiling, & providing people with respect。 The author continues to make a point that in bullying, saying hurtfu I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate this book。 Often times, we don't realize-even as adults-that we have this bucket we carry along with us internally。 This read portrays that internalized bucket as a more physical concept which is easier for children to consider。 It highlights that we can each fill our own bucket of self love by selfless/kind actions and words, helping others, smiling, & providing people with respect。 The author continues to make a point that in bullying, saying hurtful things, and other actions can take from the bucket of others-which is so, so important for little ones to understand as they grow and take with them throughout life。 We may not always feel that ideas like this are something we need to bring awareness to, but just as sometimes we need reminders, so do they-on bad days and good days。 The illustrations showed inclusion and diversity, as well。 Towards the end, the bus driver is mentioned as having a bucket, too, which shows children that every person, no matter their line of work-should be on the same level of regard as others。 The book is great to show kids how they can contribute to society with their acts of good deed and positivity。 I would suggest this book as a prequel to introducing a cute classroom management technique with incentivizing students to implement what they learned from the book, maybe rewarded at a certain point with something along the lines of a "desk pet" that have been popular lately (erasers in the shapes of animals or sticky animals clingers found on Amazon)。 This could be done by measuring reports from students in sparkly pom poms in a jar as a classroom whole for the incentive whether it be an idea listed above or just a pizza/ice cream party/free time, or individually。 。。。more

The story, “Have You Filled a Bucket Today” shouts out the message for each one of us to be a shining star that encourages and uplifts each other by doing good deeds of kindness and thoughtfulness。 When our immediate community supports, protects, and encourages us, our lives have purpose and we want to thrive。 People need each other。 We need affirmation and acceptance。 These rays of hope give us fulfillment。 In return, we want to help others become shining stars too。“Have You Filled a Bucket Tod The story, “Have You Filled a Bucket Today” shouts out the message for each one of us to be a shining star that encourages and uplifts each other by doing good deeds of kindness and thoughtfulness。 When our immediate community supports, protects, and encourages us, our lives have purpose and we want to thrive。 People need each other。 We need affirmation and acceptance。 These rays of hope give us fulfillment。 In return, we want to help others become shining stars too。“Have You Filled a Bucket Today” rings loud and clear, that if each one of us reaches out to cheer, reassure, and enrich each other, painful actions of jealousy, insults, keeping records of wrong, and rudeness to name a few, would wither away。 Children learn from all ages and stages of people。 “Have You Filled a Bucket Today” is aspiring to children young and old。 。。。more

This is one of my favorite SEL (Social Emotional Learning) books for kids。 Author Carol McCloud embraces the metaphor of bucket filling as a valuable life lesson。 Although it might seem rather straightforward, this book with lovely illustrations by David Messing models the idea of bucket filling with ease, guaranteed to put a smile on your face no matter what your age might be。

Gave the kids a way to language by which they can understand why others and themselves act the way they do, and ways to fill a bucket when they see others being sad。

Genre: Contemporary Realistic fictionGrade level: K-3rd This book as always been one of my favorites growing up。 I remember one of my own teachers reading it in class, and when we were asked to bring in one of our favorite books, this one came to mind pretty quickly。 It has such a great lesson behind it, and the visual of a “filling a bucket” is so neat because this makes it easier for young children to understand。 I think it would be fun to read this book at the beginning of the school year and Genre: Contemporary Realistic fictionGrade level: K-3rd This book as always been one of my favorites growing up。 I remember one of my own teachers reading it in class, and when we were asked to bring in one of our favorite books, this one came to mind pretty quickly。 It has such a great lesson behind it, and the visual of a “filling a bucket” is so neat because this makes it easier for young children to understand。 I think it would be fun to read this book at the beginning of the school year and have a bucket for each student somewhere in the classroom。 Each time you see a student “filling up a bucket” to add something to it & for it eventually to be full & they could receive an incentive。 。。。more

Watched a video of this book for a girl scout troop meeting。 Such a great way to think about being kind and considerate。 It helps kids understand what it means to fill versus dip into a bucket by being kind versus being mean。
